DENISON - Carl E. Snider, 1616 Lifesearch Way, Denison, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2008 from diabetes-related complications. Carl was the son of E.A. (Boog) Snider and Lily Mayhew Barrett Snider of Sherman, who both preceded him in death. Carl married Charlene Myers of New Iberia, La. who passed away in 1994. Carl is survived by son, Charles Mack Snider of Frisco; daughters, Marjorie Paige Snider of Frisco, Nancy Carlene Greene (Kevin) of New Jersey and Melissa Snider Kinas of Pottsboro. Carl attended Austin College after graduation from Sherman High School in 1957, but left in his junior year to pursue a career in aviation. He joined the U.S. Navy and became a naval aviator rising to the rank of Lieutenant JG. Carl, call sign "Stretch", was deployed to the South China Sea aboard the carrier USS Kearsarge (CV-33), during the early days of the Vietnam conflict where he took part in anti-submarine operations. Carl's choice of the Navy was no doubt influenced by the career of his uncle and namesake Carl M. Barrett who was also a distinguished naval officer during World War II. After leaving the Navy, Carl became an airline pilot for Braniff Airways. He flew all over the world for Braniff in MAC operations, domestic routes and on Braniff's South America routes. After reaching the rank of captain, diabetes forced Carl to give up his chosen profession and to start a new career. He completed his bachelor's degree at the University of North Texas and received his CPA. He worked for firms in Houston and in the local area before his retirement.
