THE BRANIFF SILVER EAGLES CHARITABLE FUND
The Association is a non-profit organization as identified by the State of Texas and the Internal Revenue Service code as identified by the 501 (c) (3). It is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, educational, and scientific purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code. The Braniff Silver Eagles Charitable Fund received approval by the IRS as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit on October 11, 2005.
Contributions can be made from the Fund to scholarships for selected educational institutions, organizations, or individuals in the aviation or aerospace related fields. These scholarships are intended to memorialize all the pilots who flew for Braniff Airways I Braniff International (1928 to 1989).
The Association shall have a Board of Directors consisting of three (3) or five (5) members. The Fund's officers will be chosen from the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors shall be appointed by the Braniff International Silver Eagles (BISE) Executive Committee and serve for a two-year term. The Officers shall be nominated and elected from the Board of Directors of the Braniff Silver Eagles Charitable Fund. The officers shall consist of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The President or a simple majority of the Board of Directors may call a Board of Directors meeting. Said meeting shall be held either in person or by electronic means, by conference call, or a member polling by the President.
The Board will vote to decide when and to whom a scholarship will be awarded. Also, the Board may authorize contributions from the fund to help persons deemed ‘in need’ due to financial hardship because of illness, accident or other misfortune. The Board shall nominate a recipient for the Fund among those institutions and organizations that are involved in aviation or aerospace related education or individuals who are interested in aviation related training and have a good record of achievement and character. Individuals or organizations may bring the request of such worthy cause before the Fund’s Board of Directors. In order to receive these funds, the recipient need not be a member of the Braniff International Silver Eagles or any affiliate thereof.
There are
safeguards in the Constitution to assure that the payments of scholarships or
emergency assistance are properly handled and cash will not be given to
individuals. Any BISE member may request a copy of the Constitution and By-laws
from any BISE officer and it is also available on the BISE website by clicking
here.
We are
soliciting individual and corporate contributions to the Fund. The BISE Board
has voted to make a memorial contribution to the Fund in lieu of flowers when a
Braniff pilot or spouse dies. Since this is qualified non-profit all
contributions are tax deductible.
